Coming back home…
So I'm coming back home
Home, where love is waiting for me
Been gone much too long
This is where I want to be…
 Brian McNight, 2005

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME--ESPECIALLY after 23 years of navigating Galleria traffic with faceless parking lots and skyrocketing rents. All of them provided the foundation for Sound Works’ building studiodecision to move back home.

It all started in the early Summer of 1977… Dwight was “Shotgun Cook,” Houston’s #1 nighttime on-air personality as well as production director for radio station KRBE. Karen was the 1st female dance club DJ in Houston at Elan, a prestigious members-only club during the disco heyday. Three months after meeting, Dwight and Karen were married and top priority on their post-nuptial agenda was building a production studio in their home in Alief! By late Fall, the two found a client-base hungry for creative sound design from Dwight as well as Karen’s secret talents for home-made sweet treats – Mmmm!

remember?

Among the first voracious producers and voice talent were Locke Bryan, Lou Congelio, Fred Kennedy, Steve and Vicki Farrell, to name a few . These creative au courant’s in their early 20’s were just beginning their own careers. And they are still working with Sound Works today!

After expansion to a business park and eventually to their prestigious Galleria address overlooking Buffalo Bayou, Dwight and Karen began to long for that home feeling again. In 2008, they found an ideal location in an unrestricted, lazy Spring Branch neighborhood with tall trees and plenty of front-door parking.

7110 Gary was created by a homebuilder as his personal residence. Needless to say, no expense was spared. The winding staircase with upscale cheetah carpeting was used for their wedding. But he and his new wife eventually decided to move to Clear Lake to be close to family. This was perfect timing for the Cooks, who bought the residence, remodeled and relocated in only 4 weeks! Making it their own, you can still find homemade cookies and cakes on occasion and can always find a comfortable homey feel, however upscale. There’s a Jacuzzi, heated pool, big-screen TV and a Wii for entertainment and parties. Mark Meyer, chief engineer and top chef, was thrilled to find a huge outdoor kitchen and grill for his amazing culinary creations.

With a sigh of relief and a renewed sense of satisfaction, Sound Works can now proudly say, “We’re home, please come in.”
